Hurray! You’ve decided that plantation shutters are in your home’s future, made a choice on wood plantation shutters vs. vinyl, and picked a finish color. There’s just one more decision to be made; louver size. So, what difference does the size of the louver make, and what’s the best choice for you?
Large Louver Shutters (3-1/2″ to 4-1/2″): If you have a nice view and/or want to maximize the light in your home, large louvers are for you. The larger the louver, the fewer are needed to cover your window or door, with
more space between them when open. With large louvers, the outdoor view is less obstructed, and your eye is naturally drawn to what’s outside instead of focusing attention on the interior shutters.
Small Louver Shutters (1-1/4″ to 2-1/2″): These are ideal for a not-so-great view, or if you want to darken a too-bright room. Because the louvers are more narrow, there are more of them on each panel. This causes the viewer to focus more on the actual window shutters than what’s outside them (and your outdoor view will be more obstructed with these). And because there are a higher number of louvers per panel, less light is allowed indoors, even when they’re open.
Whatever your view, there’s a plantation shutter to maximize it…or make it disappear. Of course, the beauty of plantation shutters stands on its own, regardless of what’s outside the window!
