I remember the first time I saw a house with plantation shutters; it was in the Dominican Republic, and I’ll always associate these pretty, pretty shutters with my tropical getaway. Whether you find them to be exotic, elegant or cottage fabulous, plantation shutters definitely make a BIG statement in any room.
So, here I am, in love with plantation shutters, but with a limited decorating budget. Yes, they’re pretty, but they can also be quite pricey. What now, just give up? Well, I’m here to tell you, fellow shutter-lovers, discount plantation shutters DO exist! It’s true – you just need to know what to look for. Here are a few ways to determine if discount shutters will work for you:
Size: are your windows a standard size? If so, you can probably order non-custom, stock plantation shutters, which automatically brings down the cost.
Materials: Do you need real wood, or would faux wood shutters work just as well? Again, substantial cost savings can be found here. And discount shutters (AKA faux wood) are easy to maintain and clean, and are more resistant to the elements.
Finish: Discount shutters come in limited colors, generally natural and white. Personally, I prefer the traditional white shutters, but you can paint vinyl shutters any color you like. If you can operate a can of spray paint, you’re in business.
Don’t let a modest budget stifle your decorating creativity! You really can add gorgeous plantation shutters to your home without breaking the bank.
